Box Score NORTH MIAMI, Fla. - In its Sun Conference opener, the St. Thomas women's basketball team defeated Johnson & Wales, 85-64 Monday night in North Miami.
Four different St. Thomas players had double-doubles led by junior center Cleyder Blanco's game-high 23 points and 14 rebounds.
Jasmin Sakers (14 points, 11 rebounds),
Claudia Martin (16 rebs, 10 pts), and
Daniella Ciccarone (15 pts, 10 rebs) also recorded double-doubles for the Bobcats.
STU led 54-52 with 9:14 to play in the second half, then went on a 16-0 run and outscored the Wildcats 31-12 for the remainder of the contest.
The game marked the debut of the 6'2" Blanco, a transfer from Weatherford College (Texas) and native of Caracas, Venezuela. She posted a stellar performance, shooting 9-of-14 from the floor and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
The Bobcats return to action with a non-conference, neutral site game vs. Edward Waters on Friday at 2 p.m. in West Palm Beach.
