ANOTHER COMEBACK WIN OVER A RANKED OPPONENT

Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The 17th ranked St. Thomas University Women's Soccer team defeated a ranked team for the third time this season with a 4-2 come-from-behind win over 23rd ranked SCAD Savannah on Friday afternoon at Bobcat Field. The Bobcats (6-0-1, 1-0) came back from a 2-0 deficit, scoring four unanswered goals, all in the second half to win the Sun Conference opener for both teams.

After falling behind 2-0 on goals by SCAD in the 20th and 28th minute, Mira crossed the ball from the right side of the field into the goal mouth. Amanda Trujillo took advantage of the Mira cross with a header into the back of the net to cut SCAD's lead in half.

After going into intermission trailing 2-1, the Bobcats charged into the second half with heavy pressure on the Bees. Just 1:14 into the second half, Melony Poviones found Zelda Jagryd for the first goal of the Swedish freshman's collegiate career. Jagryd's goal tied the game up at 2-2 as the Bobcats continued its comeback, dominating play in the second half. Senior forward Sara Mira scored the go-ahead goal off an assist by Poviones in the 64th minute. Poviones followed with a goal of her own in the 82nd minute, the fourth consecutive goal by the Bobcats, three of which coming in the second half.

Poviones finished with one goal, two assists. The senior center midfielder now has five goals and five assists on the year. With one goal and one assist, Mira now has eight goals and six assists this season.

The win marked the third win vs. a ranked opponent this year for STU who also defeated then-no.7 Mobile on the road and then-no. 22 Robert Morris at a neutral site earlier this season. St. Thomas returns to action vs. USCB 2 p.m. on Sunday at Bobcat Field.
