BOBCATS PERFECT IN CONFERENCE

Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - St. Thomas improved to a perfect 3-0 in The Sun Conference with a 81-71 win over visiting Southeastern on Monday night at the Fernandez Family Center. The Bobcats were led by junior Antishia Wright who scored 24 points on 7-of-12 shooting and 10-of-12 from the free throw line. Wright, who earlier in the day was named The Sun Conference Player of the Week, also had seven rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Junior Claudia Martin scored 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds. Junior Jessika Montalvo scored 14 points and had five steals. Senior Daniella Ciccarone recorded her team-best fourth double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The first half featured some wild scoring runs with the Bobcats opening the game with a 8-2 lead after a fast break layup by Wright. The Fire then responded with a 19-0 run to take a 21-8 lead with 10:14 remaining before halftime. SEU would match its biggest lead at 27-14 before a 15-3 St. Thomas run cut the lead to one. The two teams then traded buckets over the final three minutes of the half.

St. Thomas trailed 36-35 at halftime, but outscored Southeastern 46-35 in the second half, including a 20-10 run to end the game. Wright and Montalvo each scored 14 points in the second stanza to lead the Bobcats.

In all, the game featured seven ties and seven lead changes. The Fire outrebounded the Bobcats 42-31, yet STU forced 16 turnovers on a season-best 14 steals.

St. Thomas returns to action on Thursday at crosstown rival Florida Memorial for a 5:30 p.m. tilt vs. the Lions.
