BABSON PARK, Fla – St. Thomas (22-7, TSC 13-1) finishes their regular on a strong note as they sweep Warner (8-13, TSC 7-6) in three straight sets (25-18, 27-25, 25-20) in Lake Wales, Fla. The following day the Bobcats faced Webber (15-15 TSC 7-7) and also were able to take down the Warriors in three straight sets (27-25, 25-22, 25-12) in Babson Park, Fla. These victories secure the Bobcats as the number one volleyball team in the Sun Conference and also set them to possibly host The Sun Conference Tournament. Also, with these wins, STU secures their first conference regular season title since 2001.
The first game of the conference weekend on Friday November 7, against Warner, had the Bobcats start the match with a strong first set, but a close second set by winning it by only a two point margin. But, the team was able to secure the final set in powerful fashion.
Marisa Markus was a major role in the Bobcats victory as she posted a team high 16 kills, with
Dana Nowaczyk led the Bobcats assist role with 38. Markus also was a major factor in the digs category posting a team high 11 digs for the match.
The second game of the weekend on Saturday November 8, against Webber, shared its own hard fought sets, as the Bobcats were only able to secure the first set after winning by two points.
Marisa Markus again led the kills for the team with 11, while
Dana Nowaczyk again assured the teams major assist load with 39.
Sydney Maynard was also a key piece as she helped the Bobcats with 19 digs.
As of today, St. Thomas is now scheduled to host The Sun Conference Tournament at The Fernandez Family Center in Miami Gardens, Fla. The tournament is a two-day playoff, which is scheduled to begin this upcoming Friday, November 14 with The Sun Conference Tournament Championship game scheduled to be played the following day, Saturday November 15 at 2 p.m. at the same location.
