David Santiago led all scorers with 33 points, as St. Thomas (5-4) defeated Kansas Wesleyan (3-10) 96-74 as part of the Cruzin' Classic hosted by Trip Sports at Barry University.
Santiago was red hot to start the game, connecting on five of his six three-pointer attempts en route to 21 first-half points. He continued his hot shooting in the second half, finishing the game going 7-of-9 from beyond the arc and 10-of-16 shooting overall. He also connected on 5-of-7 free throws.Â
Freshman
Tim Sada was effective from beyond the arc as well, hitting on five three-pointers en route to 24 points. Combined, Santiago and Sada scored 57 points and made 12 three-pointers.Â
Sophomore guard
Mikon Hewitt set up the action, dishing out 11 assists to mark the second time this season he has recorded double-figures assists.Â
St. Thomas returns to action on with a game vs. Edward Waters on Monday, December 29 at 8:30 p.m. as part of The Athlete's Meals Classic at the Fernandez Family Center on the STU campus.
