Meghan Gavin made eight three-pointers, the second most in school history, as St. Thomas trounced Florida Memorial 74-54 Tuesday night at the Fernandez Family Center.
Gavin hit seven of her eight three-pointers in the first half, going 7-of-8 in the period. In the second half, the Lions focused on Gavin defensively holding her to just one make in three attempts from behind the arc. The net result was eight three pointers on 11 attempts, four shy of the school record for made three-pointers in a game (Maddie Cummings, 12, '10-11).
Junior
Antishia Wright came one field goal away from a triple double with 11 assists, 10 rebounds and eight points. Wright, who also had five steals and one blocked shot, played in all 40 minutes of the contest.
The Bobcats took a commanding lead in the first half, shooting 50% from the field to take a 46-17 lead into intermission. The Lions outscored STU 37-28 in the second half, but the large lead was too much to overcome.
St. Thomas returns to action with a road game at conference rival Webber International on Thursday in Babson Park, Fla.
