MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - St. Thomas (2-1) bounced back from its first defeat of the season with a resounding three-set victory over West Virginia Tech (0-3) Saturday morning to open the third day of the Ft. Lauderdale Sonesta Classic at the Fernandez Family Center.
Sophomore
Dana Nowaczyk (three kills, 24 assists, seven digs) was instrumental in setting up the Bobcat attack, while junior
Samantha Garza led all attackers with 8 kills. Freshmen
Carly Durr (seven kills, two digs) and
Caitlin McCluskey (three kills, one assist, 11 digs) were again impressive, giving the Bobcats a steady dose of offense and defense.
The Bobcats won the first set in dominating fashion, outscoring the Golden Bears 25-9. Nowaczyk got the attack going with a set-high 10 assists. She continued with her impressive play in the second set, where St. Thomas again cruised to a 25-12 victory. In the decisive set, junior
Sydney Maynard (one kill, 10 assists, four digs) delivered a strong performance, helping the Bobcats to a 25-15 win.
St. Thomas returns to action on Friday at 2 p.m. vs. Texas Wesleyan at the ICI Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.
