STU SNAPS EMBRY-RIDDLE'S 76-GAME STREAK

Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - In a thrilling back-and-forth, five-set affair, St. Thomas (9-4, 2-0 TSC) took down 20th ranked Embry-Riddle 3-2 (25-23, 24-26, 25-23, 25-27, 15-10) Friday night at the ICI Center in Daytona Beach.  With the win, STU snapped a 76-match regular-season conference winning streak for Embry-Riddle (2-6, 0-1 TSC) which was the longest active streak in the NAIA.

The Bobcats won the first set 25-23, then fell 26-24 in the second.  STU took a 2-1 lead with a 25-23 win in the third.  The fourth set was a wild affair with 15 tied scores and four lead changes with ERAU coming away with a 27-25 victory.

In the fifth, the Bobcats never trailed, jumping out to a 4-0 lead back-to-back kills by Markus.  A kill by Durr later stretched the lead to five points at 8-3.  The Eagles battled back to get within one point at 11-10.

STU put the match away with four straight points starting with a kill by Marcus followed by three consecutive ERAU errors with Nowaczyk serving.

Marisa Markus (17 kills), Whitney Battoe (14 kills) and Carly Durr (12 kills) led the Bobcat attack, along with Samantha Garza (9 kills) and Brianna Willhite (8 kills).  Dana Nowaczyk set up the hitters with 57 assists while Sydney Maynard led all players with 32 digs.

Six different Bobcats registered blocks with Garza (seven) leading the way.  Garza also recorded two service aces.

St. Thomas returns to action with a conference match at Southeastern 12 p.m. Saturday in Lakeland, Fla.
