TRY, TRY AGAIN: BOBCATS FINALLY PREVAIL IN AN OT GAME BEHIND THE LEG OF TRUE FROSH

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - For the first time this season, St. Thomas (7-4, 4-2 TSC) found itself on the winning side of an overtime match.  The Bobcats, who were previously 0-4 in games that went to extras, changed their fortune with a strike late in the overtime frame to topple the hosting Warner Royals (4-5, 1-5 TSC) by the score of 2-1.  Sharon Tejeda scored her sixth goal of the season to put the Bobcats up by one.  However, it was Taylor Malone's goal two minutes into overtime that sent the Bobcats into euphoria.

St. Thomas was the team going forward in the match's early goings.  Over the first sixteen minutes, the Bobcats took seven stabs at the net, three of which were by Tejeda.  Tejeda's third strike was the one that finally found the back of the net, with some assistance from Ana Parra.

Warner would quickly respond, showing that they were not a team that needed many opportunities to capitalize.  On only their second shot of the match, the Royals Ashley Cole assisted Jamie Murray on her twelfth goal of the season.  Both teams would head into the half even.

The Bobcats would get three really good looks at the net in the second, but the Royals Sara Bergkvist stuffed each.  Not to be outdone, Cristina Garwacki successfully defended Warner's only two cracks at the goal.  With both teams unable to score by the end of regulation, the match headed to extras.

St. Thomas began to press in the opening minutes of the overtime period.  The Bobcats suddenly began to display a sense of urgency, with Coach Michele Smith sending her defenders forward.  The strategy paid dividends as Malone, a defender, scored her first goal of the season in the 92nd minute.  Jannel Johnson played a pivotal role throughout the sequence.  After her shot was blocked, Johnson re-gathered the ball and caromed it out to Taylor for the game-winner.  Not only was Malone's goal her first of the season, it was her best play of the year as it yielded the Bobcats a much-needed conference victory.

The Bobcats first road trip of the year was a successful one, notching two conference victories to the resume and their first overtime win.  Now the Bobcats hope that magic will translate to some success at home, where they are just 5-5.  Webber International presents the first opportunity for St. Thomas to improve their home record above .500.  Kick-off between the Bobcats and Warriors is set for 2 P.M. E.T. this Sunday.
