BATTOE POWERS BOBCAT OFFENSE IN ANOTHER DOMINANT OUTING AT KEISER

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - St. Thomas (15-3, 3-0 TSC) showed once again why they are the heavy favorites to win the Sun Conference with another sweep (25-20, 25-16, 25-20) of the hosting Keiser Seahawks (13-5, 1-2 TSC).  This was the third time both teams faced off against each other, with the latest being the first conference match-up.  Despite the new levels of importance, the end results proved the same.  St. Thomas again looked fairly dominant in their third sweep of Keiser in as many matches.  Whitney Battoe finished with a game-high 14 kills, followed by Samantha Garza's 11 kills.  Serving them the ball was Dana Nowaczyk, who accumulated 40 assists on the night.  Jordan Wiese had another big day defensively, securing a match-high 18 digs.

St. Thomas jumped out to a strong start.  By the time Lenicia Tyson put down a Sydney Manynard assisted ball, the Bobcats were up 7-2.  Keiser would battle back and after a Nikki McKown kill, the match was suddenly tied at 12.  The Bobcats would clamp down and respond with a run of their own.  By the time Nowaczyk found Carly Durr for set point, St. Thomas had completed a 13-8 run to take a one-set lead.

The second set consisted of St. Thomas at their best.  The serve, attack, and defense pinned Keiser in an early deficit.  Unlike the first set, the Bobcats would never look back and their lead remained unchallenged.  A Nowaczyk kill followed by a Seahawk attack error secured a two-set lead for the Bobcats.

The third set proved more competitive with both teams trading points.  Trailing 17-18, the Nowaczyk-Durr connection would even up the score.  From there the Bobcats would reassert their dominance, outscoring the Seahawks 7-2 down the stretch. The third was sealed when Wiese hooked up with Battoe for match point.  As had been customary throughout the match, Battoe delivered a slicing attack through the Seahawk defense.

Battoe's performance (14 kills, six digs, three assists, one block-assist) highlighted a quartet of stellar offensive performances.  Garza was second with 11 kills, at an impressive .444 hitting percentage, and two block-assists.  Tyson had her best outing of the season with 10 kills, two block-assists, and two digs.  Durr also chipped in with eight kills and two digs of her own.

Nowaczyk, the proverbial point guard of the squad, dished the ball to the tune of 40 assists.  The Bobcat frontline was also bolstered by the efforts of Wiese, Maynard, and Kosydor.  Wiese led the team with 18 digs.  Kosydor managed to dig out 11 balls, while Maynard gathered 10.

Quick turnaround for St. Thomas, who travels further north for another Sun Conference contest.  Up next are the Ave Maria Gyrenes.  The Gyrenes are 12-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play, but are expected to provide a good test for the Bobcats prior to another break in conference play. First serve is set for 6 P.M. E.T.
