LAKE WALES, Fla. - No. 2 seed St. Thomas (23-10) suffered a disappointing loss in The Sun Conference Tournament semifinals to the No. 4 seed Southeastern (17-9). Â The Fire narrowly edged the Bobcats in five sets (25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-13). Â St. Thomas was led offensively by
Lenicia Tyson and
Cheye-Anne Savage's 18 kills and 14 kills, respectively.
Lenicia Tyson was the Bobcats top hitter for the evening with 18 kills each. Closely behind Tyson as
Cheye-Anne Savage with 14 kills and
Whitney Battoe with 9 kills. Setting the ball to her teammates throughout the match was
Dana Nowaczyk, she accumulated 49 assists during the match-up. St. Thomas had an exceptional night defensively as Jordan Weise collected a game high with 27 digs.  Following her standout performance was
Jessica Ingram (12 digs) and Nowaczyk (11 digs). Also, the Bobcats defense recorded four solo blocks along with 10 block assists. Credited was Savage (6 blocks),
Samantha Garza (5 blocks), and
Carly Durr (4 blocks).
Although the Bobcats showed an impressive performance, they would find themselves falling short in the fifth set. With a more evenly played match, a Fire's offense would barely sneak by with the win.  For a first time this season against the Bobcats, a Fire player would finish with a game high in kills.  Lydia Rooth finished the game with 24 kills, what might have been the slight edge in St. Thomas's defeat.  Victoria Trueheart (14 kills) and Uche Kojo (8kills) would also add additional kills for the Fire.  Serving the offense the ball was Lindsey Fleming, who totaled 52 assists, what would again be a match high against the Bobcats.
To start the first set, Southeastern would come up with the win for the first time in the three match-ups against St. Thomas.  Striking first during the set was Southeastern, soon after they would find themselves exchanging points evenly with the Bobcats through the set.  It wasn't until the match was tied at 18 when the Fire caught a five-point streak to put them ahead 23 to 18. The Bobcats struck back however, putting up their own rally as they outscored the Fire five to one.  Trailing by one the Fire would sneak one last point in to end the match (23-25).  Returning to the second set St. Thomas would start off strong and catch Southeastern off guard. Imposing a statement, St. Thomas would catch a run in the middle of the set. Leading 17-13 the Fire would make a comeback and bring the set within two.  However, with points rallying, St. Thomas holding strong, would catch another four to one run to end the match (25-20).Â
Headed to set three the previous roles in set two would be reversed. With an even rally to start the match, both teams would catch runs in the latter half. However, Southeastern would stay persistent and hold off the Bobcats (25-20). As the teams reached set four, and Southeastern having a set lead 2-1 over the Bobcats, both teams would give everything they had. With a close match-up throughout the Bobcats would give just enough to squeeze out a win (25-23). Entering into a nail biting fifth set, both teams would stretch it down to the last couple points. With a score tied at 12, Southeastern would put two points on the board to take the lead. St. Thomas, striking back, would be able to make point when Nowaczyk served Battoe a ball that was unable to be dug by a Fire defender. With the Bobcats trailing one, and Southeastern with match point, the Fire would end the match (15-13) with a kill by Rooth.
The Bobcats would end the 2015 season with a record of (23-10 TSC 10-2) as they reached the Sun Conference Championship Tournament.
