NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – The Bobcats (14-9, TSC 9-5) secured a crucial road victory over Johnson & Wales (12-11, TSC 9-5). After a tightly contested first half, St. Thomas controlled the second half, eventually pulling away for the 75-65 victory. St. Thomas now moves into second place in the conference standings. Both teams share an identical record, but St. Thomas holds the head-to-head tiebreaker, having beaten Johnson & Wales twice in conference play.
All five starters for St. Thomas scored in double digits.
James Vice led all Bobcat scorers with 15 points and 7 rebounds. He was a perfect 5-5 from the field, including 1-1 from behind the three-point arc.
Lorel Beckford had another solid outing with 12 points and 8 rebounds.
Michael Walker contributed 11 points and two boards, while both
Mikon Hewitt and
Chuckie Becton tallied 10 points each.
The two teams traded buckets back and forth in a seesawing first half. Back-to-back three-pointers from Justin Williams and Ricardo Suarez spearheaded a strong finish for Johnson & Wales, who went into halftime with a 38-34 lead. Momentum, however, was clearly on the Bobcats side as they outscored the Wildcats 22- 13 in the second half's firs 10 minutes. St. Thomas would never look back, pulling away for the 75-65 victory.
The Bobcats return to action on Thursday, February 12, when they face Northwood in a rescheduled match up in West Palm Beach. The Bobcats previously defeated Northwood 73-67 on January 10 at the Fernandez Family Center.
