STU BRINGS IN VALENTINE'S DAY WITH SECOND CONFERENCE WIN

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas (4-3, TSC 2-1) run rules Thomas (7-4, TSC 1-2) in an eight-inning afternoon matchup at Paul Demie Mainieri Field. This win has the Bobcats secure a victorious weekend, as they were able to take two out of three from the Nighthawks in the weekend series.

The Bobcats picked up right where they left off yesterday, as they posted an eight-run first inning to open up the game. The most prolific runs scored that inning came from an Eric Santamaria double that scored Paul Chacin and Jerry Downs, and a two-run single from Adam Duarte that scored Oscar Rodriguez and Brandon Canizares. St. Thomas was able to score again in the seventh of a Rodriguez ground ball that scored David Quintero.  In the following inning though, the Nighthawks answered back with three runs of their own, and closing the lead to six. A big eighth inning from the Bobcats, scoring four more runs, put the 10 run-rule into effect for the second time this season and secured the Bobcat victory.

One of the major contributors for the win was starter Kharlin Sued, who picked up his second win of the season, by going five strong innings, giving up no runs off of only two hits with six strikeouts. Alex Hernandez also had a great two innings of work, giving up one hit and no runs with four strikeouts. Alex Sarmiento and Chris Rodriguez wrapped up the remaining inning for the St. Thomas victory.

At the plate, Canizares and Santamaria led the hitting with two hits apiece, while Santamaria also led the team in RBI with three. Downs showed his patience today, setting a game-high four walks on the day.

The Bobcats return to action Tuesday night at Paul Demie Mainieri Field where they will play DII opponent Nova Southeastern University at 6 p.m.
