MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas (24-4, 17-1 TSC) won the regular-season Sun Conference championship with a resounding 76-39 win over Webber International (20-6, 13-5 TSC). It marked the third consecutive year that the Bobcats have won the regular-season conference championship.
On Senior Day, the Bobcats started their five seniors –
Cleyder Blanco,
Claudia Martin,
Alliya Pinckney,
Dannisha Pierce and
Antishia Wright. STU promptly jumped out to a 23-2 lead, holding the Warriors to 1-18 shooting to start the game. WIU chipped away at the STU lead with a run at the end of the half to cut the deficit to 14 points heading into halftime.
The Bobcats seized control of the game in the second half, outscoring the Warriors 37-14 in the final stanza.
Pierce led all players with 20 points and 15 rebounds to go along with five steals, five assists and a blocked shot. Blanco scored 18 points on 7-of-10 shooring and pulled down six rebounds. Wright led all players with seven assists, while scoring nine points.
With the win, St. Thomas earns the number one seed in The Sun Conference Tournament which begins Tuesday at 6 p.m. with a quarterfinals game at the Fernandez Family Center.
