Marcos Barrios picks the first win fo the series after going eight complete innings, giving up only three runs and posting a spectacular 11 strikeouts on the day.
Jerry Downs and
Cesar Ramirez both posted solo homeruns on the weekend, while
Paul Chacin hit a major three-run bomb to secure the game three win.
In game one, on Friday afternoon, Barrios' outstanding performance helped secure the Bobcat win, while the Bobcat bats had a great day as well, overall. STU posted nine total hits in game one, as
Brandon Canizares had a multi-hit Friday, along with two RBI. The top of the fifth waas the biggest for the Bobcats as they had a three-run inning that secured the win on the day. The game ended with the Bobcats picking up the win 9-3 on Friday.
In game two, first Saturday game,
Tyeler Checkley picked up the win relief for the Bobcats. The game remianed close the majority of the game as it was tied up to the end of the seventh inning 5-5. The Bobcats were able to break that tie in the top of the eighth and move their lead to 7-5. Florida Memorial cut the one run in the bottom of the inning, posting the score to 7-6. But, as the game moved to the top of the final inning, Downs step to the plate and dropped a solo homerun to secure the win at 8-6.
Chris Rodriguez came in the bottom half of the inning to pick up the save and pick up STU's second win on the weekend.
In game three, second game of the Saturday doubleheader,
Cesar Ramirez set the tempo for the game,as his solo homer to open up the first put the Bobcats ahead early. The Lions and Bobcats battled back-and-forth during the game, as the game moved to the top of the sixth, tied 4-4. STU was able to tack on a run in the sixth to move ahead of FloMo, with the biggest lead change coming in the top of the seventh inning. Chacin stepped up with two runners on base and sent a homer over the fence to score three runs and move the Bobcat lead to four. The two teams would trade runs in the ensuing innings, as the game would reach the top of the ninth, with the Bobcats ahead 9-5. FloMo would score one more run, until STU would bring in closer Rodriguez once again. This would be his second save on the day and his eighth of the season.
Alejandro Kan would be awarded the win on the day for the 9-6 victory over the Lions. This win would secure the weekend sweep and maintains STU's sole position of second in The Sun Conference.
The Bobcats return to action this Tuesday, as the head to NSU Baseball Complex to faceoff against Nova Southeastern in a night game. First pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
