SHUTOUT WIN OVER SEU MOVES BOBCATS HALF A GAME OUT OF FIRST IN THE SUN CONFERENCE

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas (15-5, TSC 7-2) takes game one of three-game series from SEU (17-2, TSC 6-3) at Paul Demie Mainieri Field Friday night. A 7-0 shutout over the Fire puts St. Thomas in sole possession of second place in The Sun Conference. A beautiful seven inning shutout performance from starter Marcos Barrios and an outstanding three for five day from Paul Chacin helped the Bobcats take down Southeastern in the Friday night matchup.

Barrios was dominate the whole night for the Bobcats as he only allowed four hits off of the 26 batters he faced. He also only surrendered two walks to the Fire hitters, while striking out five. Tyeler Checkley had impressive wrap-up role on the mound for STU, as he finished the last two innings by only giving up an SEU hit and walk in his two innings of work.Barrios records his second win of the season, moving him to 2-1 overall for the STU, while starting pitcher for the Fire, Patrick Kinney drops to 3-2 on the season.

At the plate, the Bobcats hit early and often, as they started their scoring in the second from a Canizares double scoring both Oscar Rodriguez and Adam Duarte. STU would score twice again from a Chacin RBI triple and a SEU later scoring Chacin. David Quintero would suppor the Bobcat lead in the fourth with a RBI single, while Chacin would tack on another two RBI from a double in the eighth. On the day overall, Chacin went three for five with a double and triple, while tacking on three RBI. Eric Santamaria and Michael Centeno also had multi-hit games for the Bobcats, while Cainzares helped STU greatly with his multi-RBI game as well.

The Bobcats head back to Paul Demie Mainieri field tomorrow at noon to face off again against the SEU Fire in an afternoon doubleheader.
