MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Bobcats (5-21, TSC 3-11) dropped two conference games to the visiting Southeastern Fire (38-10, TSC 14-1). Game one made for a tight contest, but the Bobcats ultimately came up short in extras, losing 2-1. The Bobcats faced a much more formidable team in game two and suffered an 8-0 defeat. Four senior players were honored before today's games.
Linett Perez,
Natalie Sacramento,
Carley Distasio and
Britney Lee were commemorated for their career efforts to the Bobcats' Softball program.
Game one was highlighted by the defensive efforts of both teams. Both teams would threaten with runners in scoring position in the fifth inning, but neither was able to capitalize. The stalemate would finally be broken in the top sixth when the Fire's Brittany LaCasse homered to left field.
The Bobcats would respond in the next half inning with a
Natalie Sacramento RBI single. They continued their solid defensive play in the top seventh, forcing the Fire into a one-two-three inning.
Any hopes for a Bobcat walk-off victory would have to wait because the Fire would force extra innings. LaCasse would make those dreams even more difficult in the top eighth. She would hit her second solo home run of the day to the same location as the first, giving the Fire a 2-1 lead. Unlike the last inning, the Bobcats were not able to counter the Fire's latest attack, instead falling by the final score of 2-1.
All Bobcat hitters tallied a hit throughout game one.
Natalie Sacramento came up with the Bobcats' most critical play when she hit an RBI single to score
Jessica Matias. Christina Sacramento suffered her ninth loss of the season despite delivering another terrific outing. The younger Sacramento went the distance pitching all eight innings and tossing eight strikeouts.
The Bobcats got off to a sloppy defensive start in game two. Their troubles fielding the ball yielded the Fire an early 4-0 lead. The Fire would add another four runs off three hits and one Bobcat error in the top fifth. With the Bobcats unable to counter, the run-rule was put into effect after the fifth.
Amanda Furar had the Bobcat's only hit in game two.
Carson Catasus pitched all five innings, and, despite the eight runs on the board, only three of them were earned.
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow to face Northwood in a conference doubleheader. Today's two losses means that the Bobcats have to win both games in tomorrow's doubleheader in order to qualify for the Sun Conference tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 1 P.M. E.T.
