MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - St. Thomas (2-3) lost a tight contest to the visiting Keiser Seahawks (1-5-1). Â Tied at the half, the difference proved to be Shoval Failer's goal midway through the second half. Â Senior
Tony Mamodaly scored his first goal of the season for the Bobcats, but ultimately it was not enough.
The Bobcats were first on the board when
Federico Moronell found a streaking Mamodaly for the score in the 15th minute. Â The lead was short-lived, as the Seahawks Emile Huovinen found Adil Lich inside the box for the equalizer in the 18th minute. Â Both teams would take the even score into the half.
Keiser continued with an aggressive approach in the second half, finding ways to generate more shot opportunities than the Bobcats. Â It finally paid off when Failer collected the rebound from Lich for the, would-be, game-winning goal in the 66th minute. Â The Bobcats were not able to capitalize on the few opportunities presented in the second half. Â An otherwise solid match-up, it was sullied by the yellow cards distributed. Â A total of nine cards were given, and one player was ejected. Â The competitiveness, however, is a good sign of what is in store for conference play.
The Bobcats return to the pitch on Friday, September 25, for their Sun Conference Opener against the Savannah College of Art and Design (Ga.). Â Kick-off is set for 4 P.M. E.T.
