Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas (8-6, 2-2 TSC) knocked off seventh ranked Warner (13-4, 4-1 TSC) 62-49 Thursday night at the Fernandez Family Center. It marked the first loss in conference play for Warner, the no. 7 team in the NAIA Division II Top-25 Coaches Poll, who entered the contest as winners of seven of their last eight.
Four different Bobcats scored in double figures with
Michael Walker scoring a game-high 13 points. Â Â
Raheem Bowman posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Â
Mikon Hewitt scored 12 points and dished out four assists, while
Armand Shoon came off the bench to score 10 points.
STU took an early 10-4 lead as Hewitt and Vice each hit three-pointers early on. The Royals responded with a 9-0 run to take the lead which see-sawed back and forth for much of the first half.Â
After taking a 29-27 lead into intermission, the Bobcats stretched their lead into double-digits for much of the second half. Warner cut the lead to six points at 51-45 on a made free throw by AJ Lamb with 4:49 to play. The Bobcats then went on a 9-0 run over the next three minutes as Walker scored back-to-back baskets followed by a jumper by Bowman. Shoon then hit a three-pointer off a Hewitt assist for the dagger with 1:29 remaining to give STU a 60-45 lead.
Antonio Ansley led the Royals with 11 points, while Eddie Delagal and Warren Hall each scored 10 points. Delagal led Warner on the boards with eight rebounds.Â
Both teams shot very similarly from the field (STU 43%, WU 44%), yet STU won the turnover battle 19-10 and made 6 three pointers which proved to be the difference.
Next up for the Bobcats is a trip to crosstown rival Johnson & Wales at 4 p.m. on Saturday in North Miami. The Royals host Keiser on Saturday in Lake Wales, Fla.
