BABSON PARK, Fla. - Webber International (18-1, 8-0 TSC) defeated St. Thomas in five sets in a thriller between the two top teams in The Sun Conference.Â
STU won the first two sets, before dropping sets no. 3-5 to the Warriors.
Dana Nowaczyk (43 assists, 20 digs) and
Whitney Battoe (13 kills) led the Bobcats in the defeat.
Shanotta Bawek (12 kills, two aces) and
Haley Bannister (24 digs) also posted strong stat lines.
In the first set, the Bobcats won 27-25, clinching the set after back-to-back kills by Bawek. STU then won the second set 25-23.
Set number three went to the Warriors 25-20, snapping a 17-sets-won streak for STU that dated back to September 14.
WIU won set number four 25-21 forcing the decisive fifth set. With the score tied 7-7, the Warriors went on an 8-2 run to finish off the set and take the match.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday with a road conference match at 2 p.m. vs. Warner in Lake Wales, Fla.
