MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - No. 15 St. Thomas (6-0, 2-0 TSC) used a strong second half and another huge scoring output by
Michael Walker II to defeat Johnson & Wales (4-2, 0-1 TSC) 75-72 Saturday evening at the Fernandez Family Center.
Walker led the Bobcats with 30 points, his second consecutive game with 30 or more points this season. Walker, who scored 33 points in the conference opener at Webber, shot 10-of-15 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free throw line on Saturday.
Raheem Bowman recorded another double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Bowman has now posted double-doubles in four of six games played this year.
Kristers Zeidaks had a perfect night shooting, going 5-of-5 from the field and 3-of-3 from the line en route to 14 points.
Mikon Hewitt was once again the main facilitator for the Bobcat offense,
dishing out 11 assists. It marked the second double-digit assist total for Hewitt.
The two teams shot nearly identical percentages from the field with STU shooting 50% and JWU 49%. The difference came down the stretch as STU hit key free throws and made critical defensive stops to achieve a gritty victory.
The Bobcats trailed 31-25 at the half, but came alive, outscoring the Wildcats 50-41 in the second half.
STU returns to action on Saturday vs. Nova Southeastern on Saturday, Nov. 26, 4 p.m. at the Fernandez Family Center.
