BOBCATS SWEEP SHARKS; IMPROVE TO 7-0

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - St. Thomas (7-0) remained perfect on the season with a 70-60 win over Nova Southeastern (1-2) on Saturday afternoon at the Fernandez Family Center.  With the win, the Bobcats sweep a two-game series vs. the NCAA Division II Sharks, having also won 71-65 in an exhibition on Nov. 11 at NSU Arena.

Five players scored in double figures for STU led by Kristers Zeidaks and Michael Walker II who each scored 16 points.  Timothy Sada and Raheem Bowman each scored 12 points, while Mikon Hewitt scored 10 points and dished out a game-high eight assists.

Bowman pulled down 12 rebounds to go along with his 12 points to record his fifth double-double in seven games this season.  Sada continued his sharp shooting from beyond the arc going 3-4 from three, while also pulling down five boards.  Zeidaks (7 rebounds) and Walker (five rebounds) were also effective on the glass.

The Bobcats outshot the Sharks 53% to 35% in a game where STU led most the way.  The Bobcats stretched their lead to 14 points in the first half, before NSU came back to take a one-point lead into intermission.  STU then went on a 14-0 run midway through the second half to put the game away.

The Bobcats opened the game with a 7-0 lead, and then led 28-14 with 6:35 to play in the first half.  NSU went on a 15-3 run to cut the lead to two points, and then closed out the half with a 36-34 lead over the Bobcats.

STU exploded in the second half with the score tied 42-42 with 14 minutes to play.  The Bobcats reeled off a 14-0 run with several key buckets by Zeidaks and Bowman and capped off by a three-pointer by Hewitt.

St. Thomas kept its lead in double digits from there, a deficit that proved too difficult to overcome for the Sharks.

The Bobcats return to action with a road game at Sun Conference rival Florida Memorial on Thursday.
