HIALEAH, FLA.—St. Thomas (7-2) dropped its second game in a row in a nail-biting match up against Florida National (4-11) by a score of 87-90 Saturday afternoon at Bucky Dent Gym.
Although the Bobcats lost, the biggest highlight of the game was Michael Walker II, whom tonight scored 28 points, boosting him past 1,000 career points, totaling 1,018 points in an STU uniform.
STU trailed at the half to the Conquistadores 42-48, keeping the match as close as possible. FNU couldn't get a run going in the second half as the St. Thomas came out of the half stronger, keeping the match tight. With three seconds left in the game, the score line read 87-88, but STU fell short and could not come up with the victory.Â
Leading the way for the Bobcats was Walker, with a perfect 7-7 at the free throw line, two rebounds, two assists, one steal and 28 points, which ultimately helped him jet to 1,018 career points. Alongside him was Raheem Bowman, who went 13-16 (81%) from the field for 26 points, picking up 12 rebounds earning his sixth double-double of the season, one assist and one block. Armand Shoon played key role in the match, as he closed out with 15 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Next up for STU is a neutral game against Alice Lloyd College in Hialeah, Fla. in the Sanchez Family Holiday Classic on Saturday December 17 at 4 p.m.
