MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas (10-3) used a dominant second half to defeat Judson (4-8) 75-61 Thursday night in the Shula's Hotel Classic at the Fernandez Family Center.
Armand Shoon led the Bobcats with 20 points with
Timothy Sada (17 pts),
Raheem Bowman (15 pts), and
Samuel Merchant (11 pts) also scoring in double figures. Shoon scored 17 of his 20 points in the second half, including 11 made free throws in the stanza. Sada led all players with four three-pointers made.
The two teams went into the intermission tied at 32-32, before STU pulled away in the second half outscoring the Eagles 43-29.
The game marked the St. Thomas debut for Merchant and
Tyrone Haughton. Merchant hit two three-pointers and scored on an electric dunk that ignited the Bobcats. Haughton was a factor on the defensive end, registering three blocks.
St. Thomas returns to action on Friday night when the Bobcats take on Concordia (Neb.) at 8 p.m. in the finale of the Shula's Hotel Classic.
