WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. St. Thomas (31-17, 14-7 TSC) defeated Keiser University (31-19, 13-9 TSC) 11-8 and 9-6 in a double header on Saturday in West Palm Beach, Fla.
St. Thomas University gets the much needed sweep against their conference rival Keiser University. The bats came out this weekend as the bobcats score a combined 25 runs in three games.
In game one, the Bobcats jumped out to a quick lead with an
Oscar Aguirre two run homerun in the top of the first scoring
Cesar Ramirez. Seahawks respond with three runs in two innings to take the lead. St. Thomas answers with two big innings started with a
Oscar Rodriguez base clearing triple scoring Aguirre,
Adam Duarte and
Bryan Bermudez. They continued to get more runs thanks to catcher
Steven Fischer contributing with a two RBI single, scoring
German Morales and
Michael Centeno in the next inning. After O. Rodriguez scored on wild pitch in the fifth the Seahawks tied the game in the sixth with a grand slam making the score 8-8. Bobcats stayed hot scoring one run in each of the last three innings to take the lead and keep it. Morales doubled scoring
Kendrick Gutierrez in the seventh, Ramirez sacrifice fly in the eighth scoring Sanchez and another Morales RBI in the ninth for more insurance runs.
Ben Ancheff came in the seventh inning with a one run lead and that was just enough for him. Ben allowed only one hit in three innings with two walks and three strikeouts. He did earn the win bringing his record to 3-3.
In game two the bats stayed hit for the bobcats. St. Thomas starts off with a three nothing lead in the second with RBI's from Centeno, Fischer and Ramierz scoring
Frankie Rodriguez, Centeno, and
Nick Canino.
Seahwaks answered with two runs but bobcats came back with a solo homerun by Centeno in the fourth and two RBI single from Gutierrez scoring O. Rodriguez. Seahawks tagged some runs on late but after two homeruns in the eighth from Morales and Ramirez putting the game out of reach.
Pitching in the second game was lead by
Alex Hernandez who allowed three earned runs off of six hits, two walks and two strikeouts through six and a third innings.
Alex Viera got another save (3) with one strike out and no hits in the ninth.
Next up for the Bobcats is a home exhibition game against city rival Miami Dade College Tuesday April 26th.
