ZEIDAKS, BOBCATS USE BIG 2ND HALF TO PUT AWAY FIRE

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas (11-6, 3-3 TSC) defeated Southeastern (11-8, 2-4 TSC) 74-55 Thursday night at the Fernandez Family Center.

STU's Kristers Zeidaks led all scorers with 23 points to go along with a game-high nine rebounds.  Mikon Hewitt (12 pts), Timothy Sada (11 pts), and Armand Shoon (10 pts) also scored in double figures for the Bobcats who outscored the Fire 38-28 in the second half en route to the win.

The Bobcats outshot the Fire 49% to 39% for the win, led by a 8-of-13 shooting performance by Zeidaks who also went a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line.  STU hit seven three-pointers with Sada converting on three shots from downtown. Shoon hit two from beyond the arc, while Zeidaks and Heiwtt also converted from the land of three.

Another big key to the victory was the charity stripe as STU went to the line 25 times, converting 15 free throws, while the Fire was just 7-of-11 from the stripe.

STU was suffocating on defense throughout the game with eight blocked shots, seven steals as the Fire recorded 18 turnovers which the Bobcats converted into 23 points.  The eight blocked shots tied a season high for STU which also blocked eight shots vs. Concordia on Dec. 30.  Tyrone Haughton registered five blocked shots, while Hewitt grabbed five steals to lead the way for the STU defensive effort.

St. Thomas returns to action on Saturday at 4 p.m. in a non-conference game vs. Voorhees at the Fernandez Family Center.
