MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – 12th ranked Southeastern (10-1, 5-1 TSC) defeated St. Thomas (8-1-1, 5-1 TSC) 2-0 on Saturday night to hand the Bobcats their first loss of the season after starting the season undefeated through the first nine games of the season.
The game, played in rainy conditions at Bobcat Field, was billed as The Sun Conference Game of the Week and lived up to the billing with intense, hard play by both teams for the full 90 minutes.Â
The two teams played a scoreless first half until back-to-back goals less than 90 seconds apart in the 54
th minute gave the Fire the 2-0 lead. The Bobcats were unable to rally from the deficit, despite shooting a total of 17 shots on the evening, including 11 shots on goal.
The Fire registered 18 shots with nine shots on goal against STU goalkeeper
Cristina Garwacki who made several spectacular saves. Garwacki was busy all evening, touching the ball on many occasions beyond the shots on goal, and making several spectacular saves at point-blank range.
The STU defense forced the Fire attackers into seven offsides penalties. The Fire committed 11 fouls to just four fouls by the Bobcats.
St. Thomas returns to action with another home match vs. a ranked opponent in Keiser 7 p.m. Â on Wednesday at Bobcat Field.
