Box Score BRUNSWICK, Ga. - St. Thomas (2-5, 2-0 TSC) put up its best offensive output of the season with a 90-73 win over host Coastal Georgia (6-3, 3-1 TSC) on Thursday evening.
The Bobcats, who controlled the game from start to finish, registered a season-high 90 points and shot a season-best 55% from the field.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 2-0 in conference play while handing Coastal Georgia its first conference loss.
Four Bobcats scored in double figures as STU used a balanced offensive attack to out run the Mariners.
Samara Auguste led all scorers with 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Auguste also converted 7-of-10 free throw attempts. Defensively, she registered a game-high five steals.
Katie Rienas scored 20 points, hitting two three-pointers on three attempts while going 4-of-6 from the charity stripe.
Keiana Brooks was an efficient 7-of-11 from the field for 16 points, while Chakari Merritt was one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine boards.
The Bobcats opened the game on fire, shooting a blazing 69% (9/13 FG/FGA) from the field in the opening period to take a 28-10 lead at the end of the first. The hot shooting continued in the second period as the Bobcats hit on three of their four attempts that quarter from beyond the arc.
STU led 47-32 at the intermission, yet Coastal Georgia made a modest run in the third quarter to cut the lead to four points at the end of three.
The Mariners made one final run in the fourth, but Auguste and Rienas hit several free throws down the stretch to cement the win.
The Bobcats return to action on Saturday as the conference road trip continues at Thomas University in Thomasville, Ga.
