BOBCATS COME UP SHORT AT BARRY

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - St. Thomas (5-6) came up short in an upset bid of host Barry (8-2) with a 75-64 defeat on Wednesday afternoon.  Barry is ranked fifth in the NCAA DII regional poll sponsored by D2SIDA.


Katie Rienas poured in a season-high 25 points. She shot 11-of-22 from the field and converted three-pointers on three occasions as she played all 40 minutes of the contest. Rienas caught fire after halftime, scoring 19 of her 25 points in the second half. 

Samara Auguste scored 13 points with 9 of her points coming in the first quarter.  Auguste also dished out five assists and pulled down five rebounds. 

Ebony Griffin led the Bobcats on the glass with eight rebounds and chipped in eight points.

The game started as a defensive battle between the two teams as STU and BU were tied at 8-8 after seven minutes of play.  Barry then took a 18-13 lead at the end of the first.

Barry outscored the Bobcats by six points in the second quarter to take a 42-31 lead into intermission.

In the second half, STU went toe to toe with the Buccaneers as the two teams each scored an equal 33 points in the half.  However the first half deficit was too much for the Bobcats to overcome.

Next up for the Bobcats is the Hoop Miami Invitational.
