BOBCATS TREAT NEUTRAL COURT LIKE HOME; TAKE DOWN BARONS

HIALEAH, Fla.- St. Thomas (8-3) took down Brewton-Parker (2-11) late Friday night by a final score of 78-61 in a neutral game that took place in the Bucky Dent Gym.

The Bobcats introduced two new players on the day as both Mikon Hewitt, Mikhail Rolle and Darwin Trotman made their 2017-18 season appearances.

The first half brought a slow start from both squads but it was the Bobcats that ultimately outscored the Barons in the paint with a 16-6 score line as the paint proved to be the dominating factor for STU.

The final 10 minutes of the first half brought explosive action from both Raheem Bowman and Timothy Sada as they combined for 15 of the teams 31 total points. As the play picked up and intensified, both seniors stepped it up as well and really pushed the game in favor of St. Thomas.

The bench in the first half also proved to be a big factor as 11 bench points ensured that points were coming from on and off the floor. As both teams split to the locker rooms at the half, St. Thomas was up 31-14.

The second half brought a fight from the Barons as they scored a game-high 47 points in the half to tie the 47 scored by the Bobcats. The duel between the two proved STU the dominant team as the final score read 78-61 in favor of St. Thomas.

As a team, STU scored four three pointers in the first half. It was the second half that had them up and running like a well-oiled machine. Sada (four second half threes) and Fotios Malelis (three second half threes) helped expand the Bobcat lead as a game-high 11 threes were made on the night. Points in the paint proved to be a decision maker as 36 points were made up close.

Notable numbers in the game came from Bowman (19 points, 18 rebounds, four assists and two blocks) and his senior cohort Sada (17 points, three rebounds, two steals and two assists). Malelis earned 16 points, five rebounds, two assists, three blocks and two steals).

Next up for the Bobcats is a home matchup against Mitchell on Tuesday, December 19 at 7 p.m. at the Fernandez Family Center. This game marks the first of two matches in the STU Classic.
