MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- St. Thomas (9-3) dominated NCAA DIII opponent Mitchell (4-7) late Tuesday night by a final score of 116-59 at the Fernandez Family Center in day one of the STU Classic.
On the night, six Bobcats scored in double figures as
Darwin Trotman (19),
Timothy Sada (16),
Mikhail Rolle &
Mikon Hewitt (13),
Fotios Malelis (12) and Khalil Williams (10) each posted 10 or more points. A season-high 116 points were scored on the night by St. Thomas.
The first half had STU up at the half by a total of 55-31. This match proved to be one of the best performances on the year by the home team Bobcats. In the first, the Bobcats went 22-36 (61.1%), which astonishingly was topped in the second half.
It was the second half performance that had St. Thomas up huge as the final breakdown between the two teams came down to a 61-28 outscoring of the opponent. As a team, the Bobcats shot 66.7% in the second half, which boosted the final shooting percentage to a game-high 64%.
Notable numbers from the Bobcats came from an abundance of players. A career-high 19 points was scored by Trotman, which blended perfectly with his four assists and three steals. Sada trailed closely with a game-high four three pointers made, as he also went on to score 16 points, assist on six occasions and steal the ball twice. Hewitt scored 13 points as he registered eight assists, five steals and three boards.
Next up for the Bobcats is day two of the STU Classic as they look to take down NAIA visitors West Virginia University-Tech on Wednesday, December 20 at 7 p.m. at the Fernandez Family Center.
