TOUGH LOSS FOR BOBCATS AS REGULAR SEASON WINDS DOWN

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – No. 5 ranked Warner (23-4, 11-4 TSC) came from behind to defeat host St. Thomas (19-8, 10-5 TSC) 76-67 Tuesday night at the Fernandez Family Center.   Warner used a 13-0 run midway through the second half to take its first lead of the night and held off the Bobcats late.  With the win, the Royals moved into second place in The Sun Conference standings.

The defensive efforts from the St. Thomas surely made an impact on the Royals from the first whistle. The Bobcats held WU to only one made shot in the first eight minutes of the game, with 13-2 score line. The intensity slowly picked up for Warner, as they were able to build upon their point total as St. Thomas took a 29-22 lead in to the locker room.

The second half brought intensity and quick responses from both teams. With 7:19 left in the game and STU with a 47-45 lead, a crucial three-pointer and a foul turned a simple three point St. Thomas lead in to a Royals four-point play. The Bobcats responded immediately with an Armand Shoon three-pointer to regain control.

The change in leads could resemble a ping pong game, with each team having an answer to the previously made shot. The clock read 4:19 when Warner drained a dagger three ball to put them up 56-55, but hastily, Raheem Bowman answered with a lay-up to keep STU in the game.

Overall, Warner outscored the Bobcats in the second half to ultimately win the game.

Shoon scored 20 points and Timothy Sada scored 19 points in the defeat for the Bobcats. Mikon Hewitt closed out the night with a game-high 10 assists.

Next up for the Bobcats is the final regular season game at home, against Keiser on Senior Night. This game will take place on Thursday, February 16 at 7 p.m. at the Fernandez Family Center.

Come out and support as we say farewell to the seniors and hello to the postseason playoffs!
