LAKELAND, Fla. - Third seeded St. Thomas (15-14, 9-7 TSC) took down no. 2 seed Keiser (19-11, 11-5 TSC) 74-67 in the semifinals of The Sun Conference Championship tournament Friday night in Lakeland, Fla.
With the win, the Bobcats will face top seed and tournament host Southeastern in the conference championship game on Saturday at 6 pm.
Desanta' Franklin-Jordan led all players with 20 points and
Supavadee Kunchuan added 15 points with a team-highs of nine rebounds and five assists.
Katie Rienas scored 13 points and pulled down six rebounds.
Emily May scored 13 points and Samata Auguste added 11 points as all five starters scored in double figures.
Keiser ran out to a 21-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bobcats responded with a 16-8 advantage in the second quarter to cut the KU lead to one point at intermission. St. Thomas went on an explosive 13-3 run to open the third quarter en route to outscoring the Seahawks 27-13 in the period. STU led by as many as 18 points with 6:39 to play in the fourth quarter and was able to withstand a Keiser run as the minutes winded down.
The Bobcats had a strong defensive night scoring 27 points off 25 turnovers while holding the Seahawks to 34% shooting from the field.
St. Thomas will now play top seed and tournament host Southeastern (25-0), the number eight ranked in NAIA DII, for The Sun Conference Championship. Tip off is set for 6 p.m. in Lakeland, Fla. Live stats and video will be provided at
