THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Ninth ranked Thomas University (27-9, 8-4) won both games of a Saturday doubleheader vs. visiting St. Thomas (7-22, 3-9 TSC).
The Bobcats hit three home runs across the two games. Two of the home runs came off the bat of
Alexis Castroman who hit a homer in each contest, while
Alliyah Sands hit a grand slam home run in game one of the doubleheader.
In the first game, the Night Hawks sprinted out to a 5-0 lead through four innings. In the fifth inning, Sands came to plate with the bases loaded with Castroman on first,
Brandi Bunker on second and
Melody Grafals on third base. Sands blasted her grand slam to left-center to bring all the runners home and make the score 5-4.
The very next inning, Castroman hit a solo home run to left-center to tie the game 5-5. Sands then followed with an RBI-single scoring Bunker to give the Bobcats the lead.
The Night Hawks would respond however with four runs in the bottom of the sixth en route to the 9-6 win.
Grafals (2-3, RS, BB), Sands (2-4, HR, 5 RBI), and Castroman (2-3, HR, RBI, 2 RS) all registered multiple-hit performances in the first game.
The second game saw TU jump out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first. With
Jennifer Acevedo on base after a lead off single in the second inning, Castroman then hit her second home run of the afternoon to left field to cut the lead to four runs.
STU added another run in the third on an RBI single by Acevedo that scored
Emily Santos. The Night Hawks scored one more run in the fifth to take the lead 7-3 which proved to be the final score.
In the second game, Acevedo led the Bobcats offensively with a 3-3 performance at the plate to go along with the Castroman homer.
STU returns to action on Friday at 5 p.m. for the start of a three-game conference series vs. USCB Â at Col. Jacquelin J. Kelly Field. Â
