MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The 2017 St. Thomas University Softball season concluded Saturday with a doubleheader vs. 13th ranked Southeastern (38-13, 16-5 TSC). The Fire came away with both games over St. Thomas (10-30, 5-16 TSC), winning 2-0 in game one and 7-0 in game two.
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Bobcat defense and starting pitcher
Jessica Castiglione held the Fire to just three hits. However, an RBI triple in the first and a home run by the Fire in the sixth proved the difference.  Â
Castiglione pitched her sixth complete game of the season, going seven innings allowing two runs on three hits.
The Bobcats managed just three hits themselves in the first contest with singles by
Alexis Castroman, Castiglione and
GiGi Santos.
In game two, Southeastern jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, then added two more runs in the fourth. Pitcher
Jennifer Acevedo shut out the Fire for the final three innings, however the Bobcats were unable to muster a comeback.
Offensively in game two, second baseman and reigning Sun Conference Player of the Week
Melody Grafals went 3-for-3 to lead the Bobcats. Designated player
Alliyah Sands and outfielder
Brandi Bunker and Castiglione added singles for STU.
