BOBCATS FALL TO HURRICANES

CORAL GABLES, Fla- The Hurricanes played host to the Bobcats in what would be a one sided affair, with a final score of 14-2.

St. Thomas (28-13) had its hands full against the University of Miami (13-16) on Wednesday night at Mark Light Field.

Leading off the second inning for the Bobcats was David Palenzuela, who took a fastball up out of the plate and ripped it to deep center to record his first triple of the season. He later would score the first run for St. Thomas on a ground out by Kendrick Gutierrez.

The first two innings, the Canes were contained to just one hit as Rene Arauz struck out two in the second and one in the first, a successful pair of starter innings for the Bobcat starting pitcher.

STU was able to hold the Hurricanes scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when a floater to center opened the score line for the home team. UM would then score four more runs, piling up their total to five runs. Chris Rodriguez came in for a brief one inning stint to get them out of a tough inning.

With a Jack Diaz double to center, the Bobcats could not bounce back and answer the five runs scored from the Canes in the fifth.

UM would score one more before the Bobcats would answer back. Orlando Rivera would crush a single up the middle, which ultimately prepared the speedy runner to score for the Bobcats. Palenzuela would get yet another hit in this ball game, an RBI single to right field, which brought in Rivera.

The Hurricane bats proved to be too much for St. Thomas' pitching, as eight pitchers allowed a total of eight earned runs. The Hurricanes scored four runs in the sixth inning, an inning in which RHP Jose Pupo closed out.

The final score ended in favor of the Canes at 14-2.

Offensively for the Bobcats, Palenzuela went 2-for-4 on the night with his first triple of the season under his belt as he brought in an RBI.

Next up for the Bobcats is a weekend series against the #3 Southeastern beginning on Friday, April 7 at 6 p.m. at Paul Demie Mainieri Field. Saturday, April 8 the double-header to close out the final two games of the series will take at 12 and 3 p.m.
