AURORA, COLORADO – St. Thomas (0-0-1) tied host Johnson & Wales-Denver (0-0-1) 1-1 in the season opener for both teams on Friday at Aurora Sports Park. The Bobcats out-shot the Wildcats by a whopping 27-4 margin in the double-overtime draw.
Trailing 1-0 after the Wildcats scored in the eighth minute, the Bobcats tied the score in the 28th minute on an unassisted goal by
Jannel Johnson on a shot from over 20 yards.
The two teams remained tied through the rest of regulation as well as the two overtime periods despite several quality opportunities by the Bobcats. Of the 27 total shots by STU, 12 were on-goal with Johnson leading the shooting barrage with six shots, three of which were on goal.

Gordon just missed on a golden opportunity in the 90th minute when she received a pass from Lyppert Thomsson on a short corner kick play. Gordon fired off a shot heading toward the net, but ended up hitting the cross bar leaving the score tied at 1-1.
Braeseke also fired off shots at the end of each of the overtime period, both of which were saved by JWU-Denver's goalkeeper.
Despite the early goal allowed, STU's defense contained the Wildcats throughout the match, just four shots, three on goal.
St. Thomas returns to action at Aurora Sports Park in Colorado on Saturday with a neutral site game vs. McPherson (Kan.) at 3:30 p.m. MT/5:30 p.m. ET.
