BOBCATS TAKE W AGAINST CONQUISTADORES

MIAMI GARDENS, FLA.- St. Thomas (3-0-1) took down Florida National (2-2) by a final score of 2-0 on Monday afternoon as forwards Jannel Johnson and Eva Castano Candela both netted in the match to seal the deal.

Coming in to this game, a match up originally scheduled for September 6th, both teams were hungry to play as a week of outdoor sports were halted as Hurricane Irma made its way through South Florida.

Shortly after the first whistle blew, everyone in attendance could tell that the Bobcats were ready to pounce and score. Johnson stepped up and took out a few defenders on her way to the Conquistadores side of the pitch.

As she approached the half-moon line outside the 18-yard box, she let one fly right over the head of the keeper. This goal, scored in the 3rd minute, marked her sixth on the season.

It took STU nearly a full 85 minutes to net the second and final goal of the match, a goal that would help secure the win. As the clock was winding down, Kortney Hinden stood in the six-yard box. With her feet planted firmly she sent the ball Candela's way. Candela curled her second goal of the season past the keeper in the 88th minute to help the Bobcats close out the match with confidence.

Cristina Garwacki protected the net without conceding a single goal as she earned one save on the night and her second clean sheet.

Defensively for STU, the team only allowed four shots to be taken in the game, compared to the 24 taken as a whole by St. Thomas.

Johnson alone took a total of 13 shots in the game, the most she's ever taken in her career, with three incredible shots bouncing off the woodwork.

Next up for St. Thomas, as they shift their focus to the opening of conference play, is an away match up against Johnson & Wales University in North Miami, Fla. on Wednesday, September 20 at 7 p.m.

Tune in as the Bobcats look to open The Sun Conference play with a win!
