THOMASVILLE, GA.- In dramatic, come-from-behind fashion,Â
Federico Moronell scored two goals in the final five minutes to propel St. Thomas (2-0) to a 3-2 win over Dalton State (1-1) at the TU Invitational.
The scoring was opened by STU newcomer
Santiago Dirrocco, who scored his first goal as a member of the Bobcats in the 26th minute of the match.
In the second half, the intensity picked up as STU would concede its first goal of the match, and just the second goal allowed of the season, in the 63rd minute. Moments later in the 65th minute, Dalton State nettedanother goal to take the lead.
The Bobcats, down 2-1, engineered an amazing comeback as the team pushed its goal scoring machine Moronell into goal scoring opportunities. In the 85th minute, Dirrocco passed the ball to the forward who tallied his fourth goal of the season on a header.
Little did Moronell know, he would have yet another opportunity to score to give STU a late win, and he capitalized. Off an assist from
Danny Martinez, Moronell registered his fifth goal of the season, on another header to give three Bobcats the lead just two minutes after tying the game.
With the momentum shifted, the Bobcat defense held off Dalton State for the final minutes to preserve the come-from-behind win.
Despite conceding two goals, goalkeeper
Robert Barton made six astounding saves to help keep the Bobcats in this matchup, as they came back and made this victory a sweet one.Â
Next up for St. Thoams is a mid-day matchup against Lindsey Wilson College on Sunday, September 3 at 12 p.m. in Thomasville, Ga for day two of the TU Invitational.  The game is being billed as The Sun Conference Match of the Week.
