MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- #14 St. Thomas (16-5, 9-1 TSC) defeated conference foe Florida Memorial (10-7, 4-6 TSC) in a road TSC showdown Saturday evening by a final score of 79-71.
The high-scoring man on the night for STU was
Timothy Sada who scored a team-high 16 points with four three-pointers.
Raheem Bowman who dominated in inside with his 10th double-double on the season (10 points and 14 rebounds).
The second half had Sada close out his near perfect 4-for-5 shooting from beyond the arc as he drained three threes that kept the team alive in a cross-town rivalry match up. On the night he cashed out with a near perfect 4-for-5 shooting from three-point land while he also grabbed one of his four rebounds at a crucial moment with seven seconds remaining in the game.
Both halves brought incredible effort form both teams but it was the first half that truly had St. Thomas and FMU in a near deadlock. Heading into the half the home team had a two-point lead on the Bobcats, 32-30, but that didn't stop the number one team in The Sun Conference.
The big man in the middle made sure that STU would continue to stay in the fight despite the intense runs by Florida Memorial. Of his game-high 14 rebounds, eight of them came in the second half.
St. Thomas was able to secure its largest lead of the game, 13 points during the closing minutes of the game.
Although FMU fought back, STU pulled away with the win, its seventh straight.
Notable numbers on the night came from both Bowman (10 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists) and Sada (16 points and four rebounds).
Mikon Hewitt had an incredible night himself as he recorded 11 points, a game-high seven steals and three assists.
On the night, five Bobcats scored in double-figures Sada [16], Hewitt [11], Bowman [10],
Darwin Trotman [10] and
Mikhail Rolle [10].
Next up for St. Thomas is a home conference matchup against Thomas on Thursday, January 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fernandez Family Center.
