BOBCATS TAKE DOWN THOMAS ON HOMECOMING NIGHT

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. St. Thomas (17-5, 10-1 TSC) remain atop The Sun Conference standings with a tough win against conference rivals Thomas (9-11, 4-8 TSC) late Thursday night at the Fernandez Family Center by a final score of 87-81.

With the win, the 10th ranked Bobcats have won eight straight games and improved to 10-1 in TSC play to remain in sole possession of first place in The Sun Conference.
 
In the win on the night, five St. Thomas players closed out the night in double figures with Darwin Trotman on top with 21 points. The other four STU players, (Raheem Bowman [19], Khalil Williams [12], Tyrik Waite [11] and Timothy Sada [10]).

Trotman recorded 21 points, six rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block. He scored seven points in the first half and recorded his solo block on the night in opening half. STU would go into the locker room down 38-41, but the senior guard from Brooklyn, N.Y. was only getting warmed up.
 
The Bobcat leading scorer made an important impact in the second half. With St. Thomas down 52-57, Trotman would put on his running shoes and speed his way past the Night Hawks. He would score 12 of 19 Bobcat points scored in a 19-10 run, ultimately putting STU up 71-67 with 5:27 left in the ball game.
 
It was a close ball game from beginning to end but St. Thomas fought its way to a lead late in the game. Although a close and hard battled game, the Bobcats came out victorious and proved it is a conference and national contending team.
 
This game marked the first time the two teams had met since the The Sun Conference Championship Tournament in which the visiting side came up victorious.
 
Notable numbers for the Bobcats came from Trotman (21 points, six rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block), Bowman (19 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal) and Williams (12 points and three rebounds).
 
Mikon Hewitt assisted a game-high seven times while Waite perfected his shot from beyond the arc with three made shots on three attempts.
 
Next up for STU is a home conference matchup on Saturday, January 27 against Coastal Georgia at 4 p.m. at the Fernandez Family Center.
 
This game has been billed The Sun Conference Game of the Week.
