MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – 10th ranked St. Thomas (18-5, 11-1 TSC) won its ninth consecutive game with an impressive 98-87 win over Coastal Georgia (14-9, 6-7 TSC) Saturday evening at the Fernandez Family Center.
With the win, the Bobcats remained in first place in The Sun Conference and kept its perfect record alive in the New Year alive. STU has not lost in 2018 with the team's last loss coming on Dec. 29, 2017.
Darwin Trotman scored a team-high 20 points on a brilliant 8-of-9 shooting night to mark his third 20-plus point scoring output in the last four games.Â
Raheem Bowman recorded his 11th double-double of the season with 18 points and 15 rebounds.Â
Mikon Hewitt dished out 12 assists to go along with 13 points to record a double-double of his own. Also scoring in double figures was
Fotios Malelis with 11 points.Â
The Bobcats shot 52% for the game and 58% in the second half as STU pulled away while holding the Mariners to 41% shooting from the field. Incredibly, the Bobcats went to the free throw line 47 times in this affair that saw the Mariners commit 33 fouls.
STU pulled away in the first half and never looked back. The Bobcats took a 46-32 lead into intermission, then built a lead of 24 points in the second half as a layup by Tyrik Waite gave STU an 81-58 lead. CCG would try to come back, sending the Bobcats to the line time and time again but the lead proved too large to overcome.
St. Thomas returns to Sun Conference action with a road game at Johnson & Wales on Tuesday before hosting Keiser in a huge matchup on Saturday, Feb. 3 at the Fernandez Family Center.
