MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas (1-0) defeated host Florida Memorial (1-2) 12-1 on Wednesday afternoon as the Bobcats opened up their season. The game was called after the sixth inning due to darkness.
Starting pitcher, Ian Exposito (1-0), went 5-innings, with six strikeouts, while allowing three hits and an unearned run.
Tyler Morales came on for relief in the 6
th inning to finish the game.
Offensively, the Bobcats were paced by efforts from
Randy Oliva (1-2, 4 RBIs), Nelson Mompierre (1-2, 2 RBIs) and Jackie Urbaez (2-5, 2 RBIs).
STU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first with a bases clearing double from Oliva, driving in Urbaez,
Oscar Rodriguez and Elih Marrero. The Bobcats added another run, off of a bases loaded walk by Oliva which scored Rodriguez in the 4
th inning to extend the lead to 4-1.
In the 6
th inning, St. Thomas batted around the lineup piling on eight runs. The scoring started off of a two-run single from Mompierre and continued with RBI hits from Chris Garabedian, Erick Delgado, Urbaez and Sergio Lopez.
The Bobcats are at home at Paul Demie Mainieri Field for the home opener on Friday, February 2
nd against NCAA Division II Claflin University at 6 p.m.
