MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas University Men's Soccer team (4-6-2, 3-1-2 TSC) lost in non-conference action to the Conquistador's from Florida National University (12-1) on Wednesday night from Bobcat Field.
Florida National took the lead in only the 21
st minute of the match to claim a 1-0 lead over STU. St. Thomas remained aggressive but was unable to put a ball in the back of the net to force a tie before the half reached its end. The score remained 0-1 until the Conquistadors netted their second goal of the afternoon to extend their lead to 0-2 in the 67
th minute. FNU added their third and final goal of the match in the 76
th minute to close out their victory.
The Bobcats used this match against the USCAA national champions to get healthy and try out a new lineup as conference play draws to a close and the push to the Sun Conference playoff begins.
Mike Marx recorded eight more saves on the match in net for the Bobcats but couldn't preserve his shutout streak past 110 minutes.
Up next, St. Thomas will take on 22
nd ranked Southeastern University in Sun Conference play on Saturday night, under the lights at Bobcat Field with the match set to begin at 7 p.m.
