MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The St. Thomas University Volleyball team (5-12, 4-5 TSC) fell against first-place Webber International University (16-3, 9-0 TSC) in four sets (25-20, 14-25, 15-25, 9-25) on Saturday afternoon from the Fernandez Family Center.
Following a hard fought match against Southeastern University on Friday night, the Bobcats had to turn-around and played Sun Conference first place opponent, Webber International. St. Thomas and Webber were in a back-and-forth affair through the first 21 points of the match as neither team was able to separate by more than three points. STU extended their run against the Warriors following a
Courtney White service ace to put the Bobcats up 14-10. WIU trailed the Bobcats by five-points following a kill by
Arianna Bolinger to take 22-17 lead, Bolinger also finished the set victory for STU as she recorded a service ace to lead STU to a 25-20 win.
St. Thomas wanted to maintain the momentum following the first set victory over the Warriors but fell behind down 1-4, before rallying to tie the second set at 4-4. Webber recorded six of the next eight points to open a 6-10 lead over STU before opening a 12-point lead over the Bobcats. Webber finished the set with a 14-25 victory.
The match-up sat tied at 1-1 as the teams began the third set, WIU opened a four-point lead over STU before the Bobcats rallied for three consecutive points to cut the deficit to just one at 9-10. Webber extended their lead from one-to-seven over STU before finishing the set with the victory over the Bobcats at 15-25.
In the fourth and final set of the match, St. Thomas was never able to get going and dropped the set as well as the match with a final score of 9-25.
Up next for St. Thomas, the team will travel to Ave Maria to take on the Gyrenes on Wednesday, October 10
th with the match slated to begin at 7 p.m.
