BOCA RATON, Fla. – St. Thomas University's Women's Basketball team (2-2) lost to NCAA Division II opponent, Lynn University (2-0) 53-68 on Tuesday night from the de Hoernle Sports & Cultural Center.
St. Thomas fell behind 0-8 early, before getting their first basket on a
Destiny Wilson lay-up, with just under seven-minutes to go in the first quarter.
Samara Auguste cut the Fighting Knight lead to just four, at 6-10 for the smallest deficit of the quarter with under five-minutes left. STU only managed one more point in the first quarter, an August free throw attempt, as the Bobcats went into the quarter break down nine at 7-16.
Following the quarter break, STU got off to a quick start as Jaddah Knigh put her post-moves on display to record two-points just 21-seconds into the quarter. Lynn strung together a six-point run to put St. Thomas down by 13, as STU needed to chip-away down 9-22.
Dynasty Carter cut the Knights lead to just five-points, at 22-27, by knocking in a three-pointer with under three-minutes left in the half. St. Thomas was unable to control the momentum following the bucket by Carter, and went into the halftime trailing by eight-points with the score at 26-34.
After the halftime break, Lynn once again was able to extend their lead over STU, as the Fighting Knights built a twenty-point lead as the game went into the fourth quarter.
STU attempted to get within striking distance in the final quarter, but did not get on the board in the fourth quarter until Madison and Sjogreen knocked in a three-pointer with seven minutes in the game.
However, the Bobcats rolled for an 8-0 run to cut the lead to thirteen with just over three-minutes remaining as
Chakari Merritt knocked in two free throws to put the deficit at 48-61. The run was too little, too late as St. Thomas fell against their NCAA Division II opponent, 53-68.
St. Thomas will be back in action Saturday, as Sun Conference play opens against the cross-town rival, Florida Memorial Lions, with the game set to tip-off at 2 p.m. from Florida Memorial.
