Box Score SEWARD, Neb. – The St. Thomas University Men's Basketball team (0-1) suffered a season-opening defeat against the Concordia University Bulldogs (2-0) by a score of 79-60 in the Cattle Classic tournament on Friday evening.
Leading the way for the Bobcats offensively was
Justin Brown, as Brown recorded a team-high 18-points on opening night. Pacing St. Thomas on the glass was sophomore,
Kheron Millwood, as the power-forward from Miramar, Fla. grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
STU held a ten-point lead over CU at 33-23, with just over five-minutes remaining in the first half, after two Adam McNeil free throws. Concordia finished the half on a 15-0 run, which featured 12-consecutive points without a missed shot. St. Thomas went into the halftime break trailing Concordia by five-points with the score at 33-38.
Concordia pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Bobcats 27-41 to close out the opening night loss.
The Bobcats defense was aggressive as a team, forcing 19-turnovers by the Bulldogs. However, the offense could not get on track, as a team, STU shot 32.8% from the field on 21-64 shooting, while only making nine three-pointers in 31-attempts.
St. Thomas has a quick turnaround and will play against Hastings College at 1 p.m. ET as the Cattle Classic continues.
