#25 STU LOSES LEAD LATE, FALLS TO TIGERS AT HOME

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – #25 St. Thomas University Men's Basketball (1-4, 1-0 TSC) lost their second match-up of the season against Voorhees College (7-3) by a score of 77-75 on Friday night from the Fernandez Family Center.

In the first match-up of the season between the Bobcats and Tigers, STU dropped the game 79-89 from Denmark, South Carolina on November 10th. Justin Brown led St. Thomas with 19-points, six rebounds, and three steals. Phillip Saunders added 15-points while collecting six rebounds, as well.

Both STU and VC were in the bonus early in the game, as aggressive defense led to each team being in the bonus just eight minutes into the game. Despite the fouls, the Bobcats were able to open an early 11-point lead following two-Brown free throw attempts. Voorhees was able to tie the game with just over five minutes remaining in the first half as the Tigers hit two free throw attempts of their own. Kheron Millwood sent St. Thomas to the half with a five-point lead, 38-33, by hitting a clutch buzzer-beating lay-up.

Following the break, Aaron Dutcher put STU up by seven-points, by knocking in a lay-up just twenty-seconds into the second half. The two clubs traded buckets for the majority of the half, but the Bobcats withstood the Tiger rally and built a 14-point lead, following another Dutcher lay-in with 12 minutes left.

The game had less than five minutes remaining, and St. Thomas was leading by 12 at 71-59, as Fotios Malelis knocked in two free throws. Voorhees went on a 12-0 run, in just two minutes, hitting three consecutive three-pointers, to tie the game for the fifth time in the game. Voorhees finished the game on an 18-4 run to steal the win over the Bobcats as STU turned the ball over as the clock hit zero.

St. Thomas has a quick turnaround and plays again on Saturday, November 24th against the University of Maine, Fort Kent. The second half of a home back-to-back tips off at 3 p.m. from the FFC.
