BOBCATS STAY HOT BY WINNING SEVENTH STRAIGHT

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The St. Thomas University Women's Basketball team (10-4, 4-1 TSC) continues to roll, winning their seventh consecutive game, defeating the Doane University Tigers (2-13) by a score of 67-56 on Wednesday night from the Fernandez Family Center.

Keiana Brooks opened up the scoring for the Bobcats, as the junior nailed a three-point bucket to give STU the early lead. St. Thomas extended their lead to five, at 9-4, as Jaddah Knight and Ebony Griffin contributed points. Samara Auguste knocked in a three-point attempt to double the St. Thomas lead over Doane at 16-8, midway through the first quarter of play. The Tigers cut the Bobcat lead from eight to just one to finish the first quarter trailing, 18-17.

Doane claimed their second lead of the game, early in the second quarter by going on a 9-0 run to open a 26-18 lead over St. Thomas. STU responded to the DU run, by closing the half on a 12-0 run to go into the halftime break-up, 30-26. The run was capped off by an Ebony Griffin lay-up, as part of her eight points in the first half.

STU maintained their momentum following the halftime break, and extended the run to 16-0 over the Tigers as Griffin knocked in two free throw attempts. The Bobcats offensive and defensive effort was too much for the Tigers, and brought the lead to double-digits, following five straight points from Auguste. Auguste added another three-pointer, as the senior scored a game-high 13 points in the third and STU scored 28 points to head into the final quarter up 58-42.

The Bobcats extended their lead to a game-high 21 points over the Tigers, following free throw buckets by Chakari Merritt early in the fourth quarter. Doane never brought the St. Thomas lead to less than double-digits and the Bobcats cruised to the 67-56 win for their seventh in a row.
