Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – St. Thomas University's Men's Basketball team (5-7, 4-1 TSC) lost to the 13
th ranked Indiana Tech Warriors (10-6) by a score of 81-68 on Thursday, December 20
th from the Fernandez Family Center.
The Bobcats were trailing the Warriors 7-2 in the first two minutes of the game, before STU rallied for a quick, 6-0 run, capped by a
Justin Brown dunk to give St. Thomas their first lead of the game after five minutes. The teams traded buckets over the next several minutes and went into the media timeout with STU trailing 16-20. The Warriors made four consecutive free throws to extend their lead to seven, with nine minutes remaining, before the Bobcats once again rallied for a 7-0 run to tie the game at 23-23.
Fotios Malelis added a clutch three-point bucket to put St. Thomas back in the lead moments later. IT closed out the half on an 11-3 run, heading into the break up eight, at 36-28.
In the second half, Indiana Tech extended their lead to double-digits early on to put the Bobcats down 12 and needing a comeback. STU cut the lead in half, to trail by just six points, following another
Malelis bucket. St. Thomas was unable to maintain their momentum and found themselves behind by twelve points with under ten minutes remaining in the second half, at 57-45.
STU could not get closer than nine points over the final eight minutes, dropping the contest against the nationally ranked Warriors, 81-68.
St. Thomas University will return to the hardwood, on December 28
th against 10
th ranked, Cornerstone University from the Fernandez Family Center with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
